Elena Piretto obtained her Bachelor’s Degree in Physics and her Master’s Degree in Physics of the Complex System at the University of Turin. She earned her PhD in Pure and Applied Mathematics at the Polytechnic University of Turin and at the Swinburne University of Technology (Melbourne, AU), studying and developing mathematical models applied to cancer. During her PhD, she started a collaboration with biologists at the University of Turin and with oncologists at the San Luigi Hospital, Orbassano. She joined the Integrated Mathematical Oncology Department at the MOFFITT Cancer Center (Tampa, FL) to work with a team on cancer drug resistance. Finally, she spent 6 months in Australia to complete her studies on models of cancer immunology. In 2019, Elena took a postdoc position in Prof. Pier Paolo Di Fiore’s group at IEO. Since April, she is a visiting collaborator at the Fondazione The Microsoft Research-University of Trento, Centre for Computational and Systems Biology (COSBI), Rovereto. Her research interests lie in the computational biology field, in particular, mathematical modelling with a multi-disciplinary approach involving the wet-lab. In 2020, she was awarded an AIRC Fellowship to conduct a project on the quantitative modelling of EGFR trafficking and signaling. As an Assistant Professor, she has taught Mathematical Analysis II at the Polytechnic University of Turin and Differential and Integral Calculus at the University of Trento.
