The Data Science Unit at IEO is recruiting two talented Data Scientists or Bioinformaticians to contribute to pioneering research that combines artificial intelligence, omics, and clinical knowledge. These positions are part of the Health Big Data Project, with collaborative work in the national Alleanza Contro il Cancro (ACC) program, aimed at advancing precision oncology through large-scale data analysis.
Salary range: 25k-40k depending on the experience and type of the contract. Contract of 1 year renewable. Type of contract: fellowship, co.co.co
Your Mission
You'll collaborate with clinical and research teams across IEO and national networks on:
- 1) Predictive Modeling of Therapy Response & Prognosis: Use genomic, clinical, and transcriptomic data to build machine learning models that predict therapy response
and patient outcomes.
- 2) AI/NLP for Medical Text Analysis (ACC Program): Apply large language models
(LLMs) and NLP techniques to extract structured data from free-text medical reports.
- 3) Cohort-Level Omics Analysis: Perform integrative analysis of patient-level genomic
and transcriptomic datasets to uncover molecular insights.
Requirements:
- - M.Sc (preferred Ph.D.) in computational biology, bioinformatics, data science or relevant field
- - Experience in analyzing sequencing data (genomics and transcriptomics)
- - Programming skills in R and/or python
- - Experience with ML libraries (scikit-learn, PyT orch, or T ensorFlow)
- - Motivation to solve real-world clinical problems
Nice to have:
- - NLP or LLMs (spaCy, HuggingFace, transformers)
- - Cancer datasets (TCGA, MET ABRIC, GEO)
- - SQL and data wrangling skills
