IT Fellowship opportunity available within the Research Computing and Data unit at the European Oncology Institute in Milan (Ref. 2024-03-AC/48)

About Us: Our team specializes in managing Research Computing and Data (RCD) platforms catering to bioinformaticians at the IEO's Department of Experimental Oncology (https://research.ieo.it) and the national network Alliance Against Cancer (ACC, https://www.alleanzacontroilcancro.it). We provide services ranging from on-premise HPC cluster management to cloud platform support, including data and pipeline workflows, secure on-demand computational cloud resources and research web application deployment.

 

Responsibilities: The selected candidate will contribute to strengthening our computational resources and assist in defining, developing, and deploying resources for managing and monitoring computing and data resources. Collaboration with fellow scientists and bioinformaticians within our group and across a diverse research community is integral to the role.

 

Requirements: We seek candidates with:

Educational Background: A completed (or near completion) Master's Degree or a PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or related fields. Bioinformaticians with a strong computational interest are encouraged to apply.

Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in bash scripting is essential, along with a strong grasp of Linux OS.

Containerization Skills: Familiarity with containers (docker/singularity) is highly valued.

Tech Savvy: Knowledge of Cloud platforms (Open Stack, AWS, GCP, Azure) would be advantageous, as well as experience with webservers and database development.

• Examples of technologies: Terraform, json, ElasticSearch/OpenSearch, Django, React, Java and SpringBoot, Nextflow, Apache Superset, Docker, Singularity, Nextflow.

 

Type of contract: 1 year fellowship, on site with the possibility for partial remote working.
