Fellowship Opportunity - Biomedical Research Technician
Hormone-Related Cancers and Stem Cell Pathobiology Laboratory
Prof. Salvatore Pece – European Institute of Oncology (IEO), Milan, Italy
A fellowship for a biomedical research technician is available in the Hormone-Related Cancers and Stem Cell Pathobiology Laboratory, headed by Prof. Salvatore Pece at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) in Milan. The lab is focused on resolving the complexity and heterogeneity of the tumor ecosystem, with the goal of identifying novel therapeutically actionable vulnerabilities and predictive biomarkers for patient stratification. These insights are aimed at advancing precision oncology, particularly in breast, bladder, and prostate cancers. A key strength of the lab is its close and ongoing collaboration with the clinical departments of the IEO Hospital.
Our research projects typically originate from explorative studies in deeply clinically and pathologically characterized retrospective longitudinal patient cohorts. These are followed by preclinical functional studies using in vitro and in vivo models that are physiopathologically relevant and experimentally tractable.
Our work integrates multi-layered omics, single-cell analysis, multiplexed immunohistochemistry/immunofluorescence, in situ transcriptomics, and advanced computational biologyapproaches.
We are seeking a highly motivated and well-organized candidate to contribute to the development and execution of functional in vitro and in vivo studies. These will include 2D and 3D culture systems, such as organoid-based models, suspension growth assays for stemness, and tumorigenesis and metastasis assays in vivo. Our models are based on established cancer cell lines, primary patient-derived xenograft (PDX) cells, and genetically engineered mouse models (GEMMs).
The candidate will also be trained and involved in global and single-cell transcriptomic profiling, multiplexed imaging, and spatial transcriptomics technologies. In addition to experimental work, the selected candidate will assist in daily lab operations, including inventory management and ordering of supplies. Full training will be provided as needed.
