Technician of the Genomics Unit (Ref. 2025-09-DPT/45)

The Department of Experimental Oncology (DEO) at the European Institute of Oncology (IEO) is seeking a highly motivated and dynamic technician to join the Genomics Technological Unit.

The DEO research activities are supported by a network of twelve technological units that are fully integrated within the department and work in close collaboration with both fundamental and clinical research programs at IEO. For more details, please visit our Technological Units page: https://www.research.ieo.it/research-and-technology/technological-units/

The IEO is one of Italy’s leading research institutes and a Comprehensive Cancer Center, integrating basic and applied research with clinical activities, patient care, and clinical trials. The DEO hosts ~250 scientists across more than 20 independent research groups and units and is located within a vibrant scientific campus shared with the FIRC Institute of Molecular Oncology (IFOM). The IEO is also a member of EU-LIFE, an alliance promoting research excellence across Europe: https://eu-life.eu

About the Genomics Unit

In addition to supporting ongoing research projects, the unit plays a key role in developing and implementing new genomic methods and technologies in close collaboration with research groups across the department.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate and manage sequencing platforms (Illumina, Oxford Nanopore) and oversee library prep workflows
  • Contribute to the development of operating procedures, manage lab inventories, and support training of users in research groups
  • Support the integration, optimization, and standardization of general and custom protocols, including automation
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of new genomic procedures and technologies.
  • Maintain regular reporting and communication on sequencing project timelines and progress with the team and supervisor.

Candidate profile

  • Master’s degree in a relevant subject, e.g., biology, genetics, biochemistry, or in a related field of the life sciences.
  • Previous experience (at least 1y) with NGS platforms and protocols, including library preparation, sequencing, and quality control
  • Hands-on experience with molecular biology techniques and laboratory protocols (e.g., DNA/RNA extraction, digital electrophoresis, qPCR, quality controls checks)
